— What: Tropical Wave 27 and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are bringing isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly across Tobago, with developing activity across Trinidad. Low-level winds also remain elevated.
— Where: Overall peak rainfall totals are forecast across the eastern halves of Trinidad and Tobago, with peak rainfall totals between 25 and 75 millimeters. Across the remainder of Trinidad and Tobago, up to 30 millimeters of rainfall is forecast. Gusty winds (45-55 km/h) are likely to favor Tobago and northern Trinidad during and ahead of heavy showers/thunderstorms across both islands.
— When: The TTMS maintains the Adverse Weather Alert, now in effect through 2:00 PM Sunday, July 19th, 2026, for Trinidad, Tobago, and surrounding waters.
— Impacts: The primary hazards will be street/flash flooding and localized ponding in heavy downpours. Highest street/flash-flooding chances are across flood-prone areas in the eastern halves of Trinidad and Tobago. Gusty winds are possible in heavy showers and thunderstorms, generally up to 55 km/h. These wind gusts, combined with heavy rainfall, may lead to fallen trees/utility poles/lines and lines, as well as landslides, localized wind damage, and agitated seas. Impactful flash flooding or short-lived riverine flooding is not expected.

The Adverse Weather Alert

The TTMS has maintained the Adverse Weather Alert at 6:11 AM Sunday, which went into effect at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, and remains in effect through 2:00 PM Sunday, July 19th, 2026, for Trinidad, Tobago and surrounding marine areas.

This adverse weather event is very likely/observed, according to the TTMS:

  • Unsettled conditions have once again returned. A tropical wave, interacting with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), has triggered showers and thunderstorms that are expected periodically through the morning and early afternoon.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and street/flash flooding may occur in areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms. Sea conditions may also become locally choppy in gusty conditions. Gradual improvement is anticipated by during the afternoon.

The alert’s color indicates the event’s severity and the likelihood of its occurrence. Currently, the alert level is Yellow. This means the hazards are very likely and the impacts are moderate for this particular alert. You should be aware of the hazards in your area, which include street or flash flooding, gusty winds exceeding 45 km/h to 55 km/h, falling trees, landslides, and agitated seas.
