After Four Days, Adverse Weather Alert Discontinued For T&T

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Adverse Weather Alert for the country as the potential for impactful weather has reduced.

What you need to know

Rainfall: Isolated showers with a low chance of an isolated thunderstorm remain in the forecast over the next several days but no major rainfall is forecast through Thursday.
Hazards: Major riverine flooding continues across the Caroni, South Oropouche, and Ortoire River Basins. If any additional heavy showers or thunderstorms occur, with chances remaining low through the next 48 hours, street/flash flooding is expected with a high chance of landslides across elevated areas. Lightning will accompany thunderstorms.

Adverse Weather Alert Discontinued

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) on Tuesday at 9:29 AM.

Trinidad and Tobago is not under any tropical storm watch or warning at this time.

The threat of adverse impactful weather is substantially diminished. Few afternoon showers are still expected with a chance of an isolated thunderstorm affecting a few areas. This activity can compound flooding in already affected areas. Soils are still very saturated and landslips/landslides are still possible in areas so prone,according to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.

The color of the alert indicates the severity of the event and the probability of the event occurring. Currently, the alert level is at Green, as the discontinuation was issued, and the certainty is observed (or very likely).

At this level, according to the TTMS, there is a low risk to public safety, livelihoods, and property.

The Met Office is advising the public to assess their environment for safety concerns, don’t take unnecessary risks, and monitor weather conditions and official updates.
