Possible Impacts
Saharan Dust concentrations are forecast to be present during the forecast period but are not expected to affect visibility significantly.
Elevated winds near 20 knots are forecast to agitate seas in open waters in eastern coastal waters, which will require caution from small craft operators and marine interests.
Additionally, spring tides are forecast to begin from Saturday, January 6th, 2024 and continue through next week, resulting in higher-than-usual high tides and lower-than-usual low tides, with peak spring tides expected between January 9th and January 14th. During high tide periods, all marine interests are advised to exercise caution with an elevated risk of rip currents.
Lastly, forecast models indicate an increase in swell periods toward the end of the forecast period. These high energy waves combined with spring tides are likely to create hazardous marine conditions, particularly during high tide periods, from Sunday, January 7th, 2024. All marine interests are advised to take precuations from then through, at least, the first half of next week.
