The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Riverine Flood Alert for Trinidad. The alert has been discontinued as major rivers are on the decline. However, significant flooding is still ongoing across parts of the Caroni River Basin and the South Oropouche River Basin.
Riverine Flood Alert Discontinued
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Riverine Flood Alert on Saturday at 2:17 PM.
“Water levels in the major watercourses continue on a downward trend and no longer pose a threat to surrounding communities. Expected rainfall over the next 24 hours should not overwhelm these watercourses to cause over-spilling of their banks. Though some affected areas are still flooded, gradual runoff is anticipated,” according to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.
The color of the alert indicates the severity of the event and the probability of the event occurring. Currently, the alert level is at Green, as the discontinuation was issued, and the certainty is observed (very likely).
At this level, according to the TTMS, there is a low risk to public safety, livelihoods, and property.
The Met Office is advising the public to monitor updates from official sources, assess your environment for safety concerns, avoid wading through residual flood water and remain vigilant.
