The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Riverine Flood Alert for the South Oropouche River Basin. However, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to return across the country by Sunday, which may cause river levels to rise yet again across the Basin.
Riverine Flood Alert Discontinued
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Riverine Flood Alert on Friday morning at 11:10 AM.
Trinidad and Tobago is not under any tropical storm watch or warning at this time.
“The South Oropouche River is now contained at this time and the threat of further riverine flooding has decreased considerably. Some locations remain waterlogged, but this will improve gradually. However, isolated showers this afternoon may slow this process.” according to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.
The color of the alert indicates the severity of the event and the probability of the event occurring. Currently, the alert level is at Green, as the discontinuation was issued, and the certainty is unlikely.
At this level, according to the TTMS, there is a low risk to public safety, livelihoods, and property.
The Met Office is advising the public to continue to monitor weather conditions and river/water levels. Monitor updates from official sources and do not take unnecessary risks. Avoid driving or wading through flood waters.
