Following the passage of Tropical Wave 10 yesterday, trailing convergence and the Intertropical Convergence Zone have moved across Trinidad, and to a lesser extent, Tobago, bringing moderate to heavy showers, persistent rainfall, and isolated thunderstorms, which have led to fallen trees and flooding, primarily in Trinidad.
As of midday on June 29, 2025, peak wind gusts have remained below 45 km/h, with rainfall accumulations across southwestern and northwestern Trinidad peaking between 50 and 100 millimeters, resulting in street and flash flooding. As of 1:00 PM, the Diego Martin River and East Dry/St. Ann’s River was at capacity, but a low tide is expected at 1:06 PM, leading to relatively quick runoff.
The following areas have been affected by street and flash flooding as of 1:00 PM. Note that the nature of street and flash flooding is characterized by quick runoff, particularly during low tide periods in Port of Spain and its environs, especially once rainfall ceases.
There are no alerts, watches, or warnings in effect from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service. Their forecast, as of 10:00 AM for T&T today: “Partly cloudy/ cloudy morning with showers over some areas, becoming mostly fair and hazy as the afternoon progresses despite few partly cloudy interruptions with showers. There is a 30% (low) chance of isolated thunderstorm activity, favoring but not confined to southern areas of Trinidad. Fair and hazy night expected. Note: 1) Gusty winds and street/flash flooding can occur in the event of heavy showers or thunderstorms. 2) A mild concentration of Saharan dust is present in the atmosphere. Dust concentrations are expected to increase overnight. Sensitive persons should take necessary precautions.”
