Hazardous Seas Alert Discontinued for T&T, Swells Return This Weekend

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has discontinued the Hazardous Seas Alert for the country on Thursday at 9:43 AM

Over the last three days, northeasterly long-period swells have predominantly affected T&T’s northern coastlines. While this swell event that coincided with Spring Tides has ended, forecast models show long-period swells are likely to return from early Saturday and continue into next week.

Hazardous Seas Alert information from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, “Sea conditions are no longer agitated as there is a decrease in long period swells and the end of this spring tide event.”

The alert’s color indicates the event’s severity and probability of occurring. The alert level is Green, as the discontinuation was issued, and certainty is unlikely, though this is typically inconsistent with a discontinuation.

According to the TTMS, public safety, livelihoods, and property are at low risk at this level.

The Met Office advises, “Continue to monitor sea conditions and take precautions if necessary.”
