Adverse Weather Alert Discontinued For T&T

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has discontinued the Adverse Weather Alert for Trinidad and Tobago as conditions gradually settle, with most areas still experiencing light to moderate rains.

— What has happened: Periods of rain, isolated strong thunderstorms, and heavy showers moved across Trinidad and Tobago after 9:00 AM, producing damaging gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy to violent rainfall rates.
What to expect: Increasingly settled conditions, with a few lingering light to moderate showers/rain, with the low chance of an isolated thunderstorm favoring Tobago and eastern Trinidad. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Tobago. Landslides/landslips are still possible in elevated areas with additional rainfall.

According to the TTMS, “The threat of impactful weather has decreased significantly. Despite the diminished threat, landslides/landslips are still possible in areas so prone, with additional rainfall. Most areas are currently experiencing overcast conditions with light to moderate rain, which will continue for the next few hours. There still remains a low (30%) chance of an overnight heavy shower/thunderstorm.” This “alert” status takes into account the possibility of the event ending, with the certainty at its highest, at very likely/observed.

The alert’s color indicates the event’s severity and probability of occurring. Currently, the alert level is Green, as the discontinuation was issued, with certainty at very likely or observed. According to the TTMS, possible impacts are minor.

The Met Office is still advising the public to monitor official sources for information.
