Tropical Storm Don continued to persist in the North Atlantic Ocean a week after forming on July 14th, 2023. Don has intensified over the last few days and remains well away from any landmasses. Tropical Storm Don is forecast to meander in the open ocean for the next several days.
Don is the fifth named storm for 2023, with only 2021, 2020, and 2005 having 5th earlier named storm formations, according to Colorado State University meteorologist Philip Klotzbach.
This system poses no threat to Trinidad, Tobago, and the Eastern Caribbean region.

According to the National Hurricane Center, at 5:00 PM AST, the center of Tropical Storm Don was located near latitude 36.6 North, longitude 47.5 West. Don is moving toward the northwest near 19 KM/H, and this general motion is expected to continue through tonight. A north-northwestward to northward motion is forecast on Saturday, followed by a northeastward turn on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 95 KM/H with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible tonight or Saturday. Weakening is forecast to begin by Saturday night, and Don is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 95 kilometers from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 998 millibars.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, and this system poses no threat to land on its current forecast path.
