As of 9:30AM Tuesday 30th April 2019, mostly clear and sunny skies are occurring across Trinidad and Tobago. Isolated showers are forecast to affect Southern Eastern Trinidad through the late morning and afternoon. Mostly hot and sunny conditions forecast elsewhere, with the low chance of isolated showers favoring hilly areas and Western Trinidad by the late afternoon. A mostly settled and clear night is ahead.
Throughout morning, mostly settled conditions and sunny skies are occurring across Trinidad and Tobago. A few isolated showers are forecast across extreme southeastern and southern Trinidad through the late morning, with partly cloudy skies building elsewhere.
Increasing low-level moisture across the islands may provide some fuel for a few isolated showers favoring hilly areas triggered by daytime heating effects. In addition, sea breeze convergence may trigger some isolated showers by the late afternoon across parts of Western Trinidad, favoring Southwestern Trinidad.
By the late evening and tonight, mostly settled conditions are forecast. A few low-level cloud patches may traverse the island after sunset, bringing brief cloudy periods and the odd isolated shower favoring eastern parts of T&T.
Mostly settled conditions and breezy conditions are forecast for the start of Wednesday.
Generally gentle to fresh breezes (20-40 KM/H) winds are forecast for Tuesday, mainly from the east. 40-45 KM/H gusts are possible.
Minimal rainfall accumulation is forecast, generally less than 5 millimeters across Eastern Trinidad and trace to no accumulations elsewhere.
Last night’s minimum temperatures were 24°C at Piarco, Trinidad and 26.1°C at Crown Point, Tobago. Minimum low temperatures across Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow are forecast to range between 24°C-26°C, with temperatures at the upper end of the minimum low temperature range favoring Tobago. Low temperatures are likely to be lower across inland and mountainous areas.
Today, maximum high temperatures across T&T are forecast to be near a hot 33°C at Piarco, Trinidad and up to 34°C in a few areas, with a heat index of 36-38°C . Across Tobago, maximum high temperatures are forecast to be a warm 31-32°C with a heat index of 34-35°C. The heat index is an index that combines air temperature and relative humidity, generating a “feel’s like” temperature.
Seas are forecast to remain moderate in open waters through the week. Waves in open waters are forecast to remain up to 1.5 meters particularly East of Trinidad and Tobago through Tuesday, occasionally up to 2.0 meters. In sheltered areas, seas are forecast to remain near calm, generally below 1.0 meters. Winds will be from the east through the next day or so at 10-15 knots.
On Wednesday, winds are expected to increase to 15-20 knots from the east, and so too will seas in open waters. Waves up to 2.0 meters, occasionally in excess of 2.0 meters particularly Wednesday night through Friday morning, are forecast.
Mild Saharan Dust Lingering Through The Week, Another Plume Forecast to Arrive This Weekend
Presently, dust concentrations remain at minimal levels across the Southern Caribbean. Across Trinidad and Tobago, air quality is at good to moderate levels. Most places across the Eastern Caribbean are presently experiencing good air quality. Areas in the immediate vicinity of bushfires may experience moderate air quality.
At moderate air quality levels, unusually sensitive groups should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
By late Friday, based on current information as of 9:00AM Tuesday 30th April 2019, a plume of mild to moderate concentrations of Saharan Dust is forecast to arrive at Trinidad and Tobago shores. Air quality is forecast to be reduced.
Throughout the week, i.e. Tuesday through Friday, minimal to mild concentrations of Saharan Dust are forecast across Trinidad and Tobago. Air quality is generally forecast to remain at good to moderate levels. The exception will be in areas experiencing smokey conditions due to bush fires and blowing dust in dry areas. In these situations, air quality may be further reduced to moderate levels.
