Two houses in Felicity are damaged following gusty winds associated with a midday thunderstorm. There were no injuries.
The first damaged home belongs to Lillawatie Kissoon, where the roof was partially ripped off. Kissoon, located on the corner of Lyle Lane Street and Bernard Road, Felicity lost several galvanize sheets to the gusty winds. According to the 70-year-old, the sheets flew approximately three houses away.
The pensioner shares the home with her son, daughter-in-law, and young grandson. T&TEC and officials from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service visited the home, securing the scene as severed live wires had to be disconnected.
Wendy Francis, Councilor for Felicity/Endeavour, visited the scene, and conducted damage assessments. The Chaguanas Borough Corporation’s Disaster Management Unit provided a tarpaulin and mattresses to the family. Acting in her capacity as the Disaster Management Unit chair, Francis also helped Kissoon fill out forms to access government grants.
A second roof was damaged as strong winds brought down a mango tree on a home along Cacandee Road, damaging the home’s roof. The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service assisted. There were no injuries.
Councilor Francis also commended good Samaritans and neighbors for coming to the families’ needs.
What caused this weather?
The strong afternoon thunderstorm was triggered by a west-moving surface to low-level trough that has brought unsettled weather to much of the southern Windward Islands.

Flooding occurred across Barbados, with a station in Christ Church recording 83.6 mm during a 24 hour period, from midday yesterday to midday today. While other stations across the central regions of the island recorded up to 155.6 mm of rainfall during the same time period.

In Grenada, heavy rainfall triggered a rockfall, sending a large boulder cascading through Gouyave Estate, damaging at least two homes with no injuries.
