Tracking COVID-19 in T&T – 3 More Recoveries

COVID-19 cases, deaths, and recoveries data will be updated as new information from the Ministry of Health (Trinidad and Tobago) and The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development (Tobago) is released.

Trinidad and Tobago has recorded 133 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths, and 120 recoveries (discharged). 5,701 samples have been submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency and the University of the West Indies site for testing.

As of 10:00 AM Thursday 8th July 2020, there are five (5) active COVID-19 cases in T&T. All eight cases are imported cases.

It is not entirely clear the number of cases that are classified as local, imported, or community spread.

52 positive cases have originated from one cluster – the Costa Favolosa cruise. 49 of these cases have stemmed from 68 nationals that have been quarantined at Camp Balandra while 3 additional cases were nationals who returned to T&T separately.

12 positive cases originated from another cluster – the returning nationals from the Enchantment of the Seas cruise ship, where all 308 people have been in institutionalized quarantine upon their return to T&T’s borders.

Data from the Ministry of Health daily press releases and updates containing the number of samples submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the University of the West Indies (as of Monday 4th May 2020) for testing for COVID-19. Note that these figures show the number of samples submitted by the Regional Health Authorities across Trinidad and Tobago, showing both individual tests and retests as part of the discharge protocol, which requires two tests within 24-hours. It does not include rejected samples by CARPHA.

In the 10 AM update, Trinidad and Tobago has no new cases or deaths.

Three people were discharged from the Caura Hospital as of Thursday morning.

Our number of active cases is at five (5), with 120 recoveries and eight deaths. The total COVID-19 cases in T&T stands at 133.

In the Ministry of Heath’s 10 AM Update, of the 5,701 samples submitted to CARPHA and UWI for testing, 4,264 samples were unique while 1,437 samples were submissions for retests. Note that none of the 5,701 samples reported in the press release were rejected samples.

The number of samples submitted to CARPHA and UWI is at 5,695, a 47 sample increase from 24 hours ago at yesterday’s 6 PM Update.


In the 10 AM update, Trinidad and Tobago has no new cases, deaths, or recoveries.

In the Ministry of Heath’s 10 AM Update, of the 5,680 samples submitted to CARPHA and UWI for testing, 4,244 samples were unique while 1,436 samples were submissions for retests. Note that none of the 5,680 samples reported in the press release were rejected samples.

Day 2 (Again): No New Cases

July 7th, 2020

As of the 6 PM update, no new cases, deaths, or recoveries were reported.

All remaining 290 nationals from the Enchantment of the Seas vessel, who received negative COVID-19 test results, have been discharged.  These nationals are required to home quarantine for a stipulated period of time after discharge; seven (7) days in the first instance. They will be monitored by the County Medical Officers of Health who, with the assistance of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, will ensure full adherence to home quarantine rules.

Our number of active cases is at eight (8), with 117 recoveries and eight deaths. The total COVID-19 cases in T&T stands at 133.

The number of samples submitted to CARPHA and UWI is at 5,648, a 90 sample increase from 24 hours ago at yesterday’s 6 PM Update.

Two New Recoveries

Three New COVID-19 Cases

In the 10 AM and 6 PM update, Trinidad and Tobago has no new recoveries or deaths but two new cases were recorded.

These new cases came from two returning nationals from the Enchantment of the Seas. This marks the 10th and 11th cases originating from that cluster of imported cases.
