Roof Blown Off Home In Brazil Village, Central Trinidad

Brazil Lome Branch Trace is reeling from last night’s gusty winds which ripped across parts of Central Trinidad, ripping a roof off one home in Brazil Village, San Raphael.

Between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM Tuesday night, gusty winds associated with strong thunderstorms moved across parts of Southern and Central Trinidad. Higher gusts likely moved across areas further east.

Zobida Rampersad, a resident, and owner of the home in which the roof was blown off, speaking to Trinidad and Tobago Weather Center relayed at approximately 10:00 PM last night, the sole resident of the affected home, her mother, informed her of the roof being blown off.

According to Zobiba Rampersad, calls to the ODPM were successful on Tuesday night but she was informed that aid would not be available until Wednesday morning. This caused the entirety of the home to suffer water damage as rainfall continued into the night.

After reaching out to the Councillor for the area (Longdenville/Talparo), Ryan Rampersad, the Disaster Management Unit for the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation did not receive any information from the ODPM.

Following our request for confirmation of the event, only then were officials from the Disaster Management Units dispatched to Brazil Lome Branch Trace for initial assessments, several hours after the event, upon the request of Councillor Rampersad.

Inclement Weather To Continue

Periods of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to move across Trinidad and Tobago today as the Intertropical Convergence Zone affects both islands. An Adverse Weather Alert – Yellow Level remains in effect through 4:00 PM today, but showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast through tonight.

Heavier showers and thunderstorms are forecast to favor Eastern Tobago as well as Southern and Eastern halves of Trinidad, bringing more gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.
