5:30 PM Update: Two wooden homes were completely destroyed, seven homes experienced wind damage and up to 35 persons were affected in the Rousillac area according to Ms. Chandra Ramadharsingh, councilor for the area.
A thunderstorm affected parts of Coastal Southwestern Trinidad this afternoon, producing gusty winds, street flooding and locally heavy rainfall across the region.
The hardest-hit areas were La Brea, South Oropuche and Rousillac.
In Rousillac, as of 3:00 PM, there has been one report of a blown off roof, one report of roof damage and downed power lines in the vicinity of Rousillac Presbyterian Church.
In addition, along the Southern Main Road in the vicinity of Well Services Petroleum Company Limited, street flooding was ongoing as of 3:00 PM.
In La Brea, similar conditions occurred, with gusty winds downing trees, causing minor wind damage and triggering street flooding across the area.
Additional showers and isolated thunderstorms are ongoing across the Western half of Trinidad, as forecast, through the afternoon.
While many may attribute this to a “freak” storm, these thunderstorms are part of the normal wet season activity in Trinidad and Tobago.
