Live Updates: The ITCZ – A Multi-Day Rainfall Event (Day 3)

The ITCZ is forecast to affect Trinidad and Tobago between Tuesday 8th October and Friday 11th October 2019, bringing periods of showers and thunderstorms. This will trigger street and flash flooding; downed trees, utility poles, and lines; landslides/landslips; power outages and hazardous seas. Live Updates for Thursday 10th October 2019 below. An Adverse Weather Alert went into effect for T&T at 6:00 AM Wednesday until 6:00 PM Thursday.

  • The Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of Monroe Road and Bejucal Road
  • The Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of Arthur Lok Jack
  • The Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Trincity and again in Tacarigua
  • Bamboo Settlement #3 in the vicinity of Grand Bazaar.
  • The University of the West Indies (nearly all surrounding roads), St. Augustine
  • The Caroni Savannah Road between the Southern Main Road and the Southern Main Road, Caroni.
  • The Southern Main Road between Fredrick Settlement and La Paille, Caroni
  • Wrightson Road (westbound lanes), Port of Spain in the vicinity of Powergen
  • Boundary Road, El Socorro and various areas of El Socorro South
  • Agostini Street, St. Augustine

Street flooding is ongoing in various areas across the Western half of Trinidad:

  • The Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of Monroe Road
  • The Caroni Savannah Road between the Southern Main Road and the Southern Main Road, Caroni.
  • The Southern Main Road between Fredrick Settlement and La Paille, Caroni
  • Independence Square, Port of Spain
  • Wrightson Road (westbound lanes), Port of Spain in the vicinity of Powergen.

Parts of Central and Northern Trinidad are experiencing heavy thunderstorm and shower activity, producing violent rainfall rates in excess of 50 millimeters per hour. Port of Spain has received over 30 millimeters of rainfall in the last two hours. Street and flash flooding expected.

Street flooding ongoing along Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, across westbound lanes. Lightning strikes are causing power dips across West-Central and Northwestern Trinidad.

Street flooding ongoing along the Southern Main Road in the vicinity of La Paille Village and Fredrick Settlement Caroni.

Rainfall is temporarily waning across Port of Spain, but a developing thunderstorm in the vicinity of Charlieville is forecast to move across Northwestern Trinidad within the next hour, bringing another round of flooding rainfall.

Street flooding ongoing across various areas of Port of Spain including Wrightson Road, St. Vincent Street, Independence Square, and other usual flood-prone areas. High tide is at 2:36 PM with showers forecast to continue. Street flooding may be slow to run off.

A low-level trough is influencing our wind regime, dragging showers and moisture northward. Overcast skies are ongoing across the southern half of Trinidad, with increasing cloudiness forecast across the remainder of the island through the mid to late morning.
