Live Updates – Showers & Thunderstorms Affect T&T (Day 1)

A trough is forecast to continue to affect Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday 19th November, bringing periods of showers and thunderstorms. This may trigger street and flash flooding; downed trees, utility poles, and lines; landslides/landslips; power outages. There are no alerts, watches or warnings in effect for T&T as of 11:00 PM Tuesday 19th November 2019. Live updates have ended.


10:45 PM Tuesday 19th November 2019

Isolated showers are approaching Eastern Trinidad. As the night progresses, showers are forecast to increase across Eastern Coastal Waters of T&T, gradually moving west to northwest, affecting both islands.

By the early to mid-morning, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to more across both islands, similar to today’s (Tuesday’s) weather. The main hazards with these showers will be locally heavy rainfall, reduced visibility on the roads, street/flash flooding and gusty winds. Frequent lightning is also a concern in thunderstorms.

A cluster of weakening showers is approaching Tobago and Eastern Trinidad, with light to moderate showers and isolated heavy pockets. The main hazards are locally heavy rainfall reducing visibility and potentially triggering street flooding, as well as gusty winds.

Mostly settled conditions are ongoing across Trinidad and Tobago, with a cluster of moderate to heavy showers moving northwestward, approaching our Eastern Coastlines. These showers are forecast to begin affecting Tobago between 4:45 PM and 5:00 PM.

Light rain continues across Eastern Trinidad, with isolated light to moderate showers ongoing across Southwestern Coastal Trinidad and Western Tobago. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast to continue across both islands, interrupted by isolated showers through the afternoon. Additional showers and possible thunderstorms are approaching the Southern and Eastern coasts of both islands.

Light rain continues across Northern and Eastern Trinidad, with isolated light to moderate showers ongoing across Southwestern Trinidad and Western Tobago. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast to continue across both islands, interrupted by isolated showers through the afternoon.

Another line of weakening showers is moving northwestward across Eastern Trinidad, producing isolated to scattered showers of light to moderate intensity, and isolated heavy pockets. As these showers progress across Trinidad, gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall remains the main threats.

Moderate to heavy showers ongoing across Northern and Western Trinidad, with gusty winds accompanying this activity. Additional showers and thunderstorms moving onshore southeastern Trinidad.

Gusty winds are moving across Trinidad, accompanying showers and thunderstorms. A wind gust of 41 KM/H was recorded at Piarco at 11:27 AM and a wind gust of 32.2 KM/H was recorded at Longdenville, Chaguanas at 11:30 AM.

Isolated to scattered moderate to heavy showers and light rain persist across both islands with another line of showers and thunderstorms approaching Southeastern Trinidad. Locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and street/flash flooding are the main hazards, in addition to reduced visibility on the roadways.

A line of moderate to heavy showers and light rain is moving across Eastern and Central Trinidad, as well as Tobago, progressing towards the northwest. Showers are forecast to move across Western Trinidad within the hour, with some intensification as it reaches Western Coastal Areas and along the Northern Range due to sea breeze convergence and orographic intensification.

A cluster of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are approaching Trinidad and Tobago. These showers will weaken as it moves onshore, but increase in coverage. Hence, gusty winds are forecast to move ahead of showers, particularly across Eastern Trinidad, with moderate to heavy rainfall.

Flash flooding has rendered the Penal Quinam Road, Penal temporarily impassable. Seek alternate routes. Do not traverse through floodwaters.

The TTPS wishes to advise commuters that it is safe to come into Port of Spain. There is no flooding in Port of Spain. The streets are passable and City Gate remains clear at this time.

Isolated moderate to heavy showers are affecting Tobago and Eastern areas of Trinidad, while light to moderate rain (which is broader and persistent) is ongoing across Northern Trinidad.

Light to moderate rain and showers ongoing across parts of Trinidad and Tobago while an isolated thunderstorm is affecting Northeastern parts of Trinidad. Conditions are forecast to become briefly settled through the mid-morning, with thunderstorms and showers developing by the late morning through the afternoon.

  • The Southern Main Road between Freeport (St. Mary’s) and Chase Village
  • The Penal Rock Road
  • Mendez Village, Siparia in the vicinity of Deoraj Trace junction and along Penal Quinam Road.
