Gusty Winds Cause Wind Damage Across T&T

Gusty winds associated with Tropical Wave 09 is affecting Trinidad and Tobago, with stronger winds favoring Tobago.

Across Trinidad, gusty winds brought down a large mango tree on a home in Gasparillo this morning. According to resident Collin Dopson, there was “little damage to the roof. The tank and tank stand was damaged. Thankfully, no one was injured.”

Authorities were not called, as nearby residents helped remove and clear the fallen tree from the area.

Across Tobago, winds between 40-60 KM/H and gusts to 80 KM/H has brought down trees across the island.

As of 1:00 PM, Scarborough recorded sustained winds of 38.9 KM/H with gusts to 59.1 KM/H. As of 1:00 PM, TEMA has received reports of two fallen trees, one in Lambeau which blocked a roadway (this has been cleared) and another in Bethel which damaged a home.

At Fort George, Tobago, gusty winds also took a roof off a construction shed.

Through the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms are forecast continue across Trinidad and Tobago, with locally heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds in excess of 60 KM/H. Street/flash flooding, power dips, reduced visibility, and localized wind damage possible.

An Adverse Weather Alert Yellow Level remains in effect from 5:00 AM Wednesday through 4:00 PM Thursday 18th June 2020 for both Trinidad and Tobago. Note that adverse weather is possible through the weekend. Adverse weather is forecast to primarily impact Trinidad and to a lesser extent Tobago as well as marine areas mainly to the east and southeast of Trinidad.
