COVID-19 Surpasses Epidemic Threshold in Guadeloupe – 45 Confirmed Cases

COVID-19 cases in Guadeloupe has more than doubled in the last three days, jumping from 18 on March 16th to 45 on March 19th.

Guadeloupe now has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the Caribbean Region, ahead of the Dominican Republic, with 34 confirmed cases and one death.

Contact tracing is underway by ARS and Santé Publique France.

The epidemic threshold in Guadeloupe of 10 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants was reached today (40 cases is the threshold).

According to the March 19th Situation Report from Agence Régionale de Santé (ARS) Guadeloupe, 8 of the 45 patients are hospitalized with three in intensive care.

Contact tracing is underway by ARS and Public Health France. Contact persons are called on the phone by the team dedicated to the ARS to inform them, tell them what to do (maintaining isolation + monitoring
of their state of health), and specify to them the methods of care in the event of the appearance of symptoms.

The ARS of Guadeloupe has set up a partnership with the Health Insurance and the Red Cross French to develop a platform of Response, Information to the population, Orientation, Monitoring and Telemedicine to support the identification and orientation process for symptomatic patients
COVID-19.

This operational platform as of Friday 20th March 2020 will avoid saturation in Center 15 and respond to preserve its regulatory function for life-threatening situations. This platform will be in close collaboration with private doctors and hospitals.
