Live Updates: Impacts Of Tropical Wave 05

Tropical Wave 05 moved across Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, bringing periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the last 48 hours. Up to 6 inches (150 millimeters) of rainfall has been recorded across T&T, elevating rivers across the country.

Through the last 72 hours, three Adverse Weather Alerts (#1, #2, #3) were issued for T&T, which were discontinued at 10:11 PM Saturday 5th June 2021.

However, due to the high rainfall accumulation across the Caroni River Basin, the Caroni River at Carapo and Centeno is at threshold levels with a high potential for over-spilling onto the riverbanks and roadways. As flooding subsides on Sunday and river levels reduce, the Riverine Flood Alert (Yellow Level) for Northern and Central Trinidad has been discontinued.

Generally, the risk of additional rainfall is low, with only brisk isolated showers possible on Sunday. Two tropical waves are forecast to move across the region during the upcoming week, which may elevate T&T’s flood potential once again.
