Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) Issued For T&T Due To ITCZ

As we’ve been forecasting over the last few days, down to the last few hours, thunderstorms and showers are anticipated across T&T due to an active ITCZ approaching the region.

The Adverse Weather Alert

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service issued an Adverse Weather Alert Yellow Level on Saturday night at 10:13 PM, which will go into effect at 3:00 AM Sunday 16th August 2020 and will remain in effect through 2:00 PM Sunday 16th August 2020.

Trinidad and Tobago is not under any tropical storm watch or warning at this time.

There is a high chance of heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms associated with the passage of a low-level trough interacting with the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This activity is forecast to peak during the early/mid morning hours of Sunday 16th August 2020. Street/flash flooding is likely in heavy downpours and gusty winds near 60 KM/H can accompany showers and thunderstorms.” according to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service. This “alert” status takes into account the possibility of the event occurring. This adverse weather event is likely.

The color of the alert indicates the severity of the event and the probability of the event occurring. Currently, the alert level is at Yellow. This means that the hazard is possible to be aware of the impacts of Street/Flash Flooding and Gusty Winds in your area. Areas prone to landslides should also be aware of the hazard and impacts.
