An electrical fire is being blamed for a partial blackout across Port of Spain between 11:15 AM and 1:15 PM.
The power outage extends as far west as Ariapita Avenue, east as Woodford Square, north as Park Street and south as Independence Square.
According to fire officials, officers attached to the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded to the report of a fire at the Master Sub-Station located at Park Avenue, near PowerGen.
Note that PowerGen in Port of Spain had been decommissioned by T&TEC on January 14th, 2016. However, it still houses a 12,000-volt supply at its location, with a 132,000-volt substation.
According to senior officials at the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS), officers attached to the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded to the report of a fire at the Master Sub-Station located at Park Avenue, near PowerGen.
Fire appliances responded within a minute of the report from T&TEC, and the blaze was extinguished in 20 minutes.
While the cause has not been determined, the fire involved an electrical panel of an estimated value of $250,000. Damage is estimated at $100,000. Investigations have been conducted by the TTFS under the supervision of AFCO Boodoo.
