Brief Power Outages Across Trinidad Possible On Sunday

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers in Trinidad to conserve electricity between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Sunday 8th December 2019.

The National Gas Company (NGC) will be conducting expansion work on its network and has the potential to affect NGC’s supply of gas to the Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) Power Station.

In the unlikely event that the NGC’s work does affect its gas supply to TGU, it may result in a temporary loss of electricity supply, or brief power outages, to customers across Trinidad.

As a precaution, T&TEC is appealing to customers to minimize their use of non-essential, high-energy appliances and equipment, such as air conditioning units, dryers, and water heaters, to reduce the risk of load shedding, which may result in brief power outages, on Sunday, between the hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

T&TEC apologizes for any inconvenience that may be caused to customers during this period.

NGC also clarified that there will be a minimal chance of disruption to its supply of gas to TGU as a result of scheduled works being undertaken this weekend.

As of 8:45 AM Sunday 8th, December 2019, power outages have already been reported in the Penal area. This outage was not as a result of the NGC works, but due to T&TEC conducting line maintenance in the area.
